Rental Equipment, Events and Sustainability
Sunbelt Rental has partnered with the Tortuga Music Festival to provide rental equipment solutions to power the event, with an increased focus on sustainable event planning over the last three years. For the 2025 event, that partnership became one of significant progress as Sunbelt Rentals presented viable solutions to show how this music festival could be more environmentally sustainable by utilizing battery power, along with providing other equipment to protect the grounds and wildlife in the area.
Protecting the Sands and Reducing Emissions
Sustainability at events like Tortuga helped planners meet their goals of implementing more efficient power solutions to help reduce emissions. But in this case, there was also the need to protect the beaches on which the festival operates. Those beaches are home to sea turtle hatchlings who leave their sandy nests to head to a life in the ocean. Sunbelt Rental and festival planners also needed to prevent erosion of the beaches from the crowds of attendees.
The Results of a Sustainable Event Production
True to its promise to reduce fuel usage and emissions, Sunbelt Rentals implemented Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and supplied 16 portable solar light tower rentals. The result:
Reduction in the use of diesel generators
An overall reduction from 32 in previous Tortuga Music Festivals to 8 generators in 2025.
Achieving the same reliable power from a BESS setup
Featuring use with low-to-zero emissions, compared to diesel generators.
Generating low-to-zero emissions with solar light towers
Unlike diesel light towers, Sunbelt Rentals solar light towers generate lower emissions while in use.
Sunbelt Rentals also provided 190,000 square feet of ground protection matting to cover the sand, nesting areas. They implemented amber filters for all fluorescent lights, from forklifts and other heavy equipment to UTVs and trucks. Since turtle hatchlings find their way to the ocean by following the moon's light, the amber light prevented them from becoming confused by other lights and heading in the wrong direction.
