Every year, the American Heart Association (AHA) in Charlotte, NC hosts a Heart Ball to celebrate their work and mission, their donors and volunteers, and the lives saved and improved because of everyone’s effort. The 60th Annual Greater Charlotte Heart Ball took place on February 10, 2018, and had over 1,000 attendees from more than 100 companies.
In addition to purchasing a ticket, which includes access to gourmet dining, entertainment, live and silent auctions, guests can choose to participate in the ‘Bring a Ball to the Ball’ program. This program collects all types of sports balls and donates them to Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools’ After School Enrichment Programs
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in America, nearly one in three children are considered overweight or obese, partly due to inactivity. Per the AHA, they want to help make sure children have the equipment they need to get active while still having fun – reducing the future potential of obesity.
The Bring a Ball to the Ball program collected 400 different sports balls which were donated to Idlewood Elementary School, Chantilly Montessori, Oaklawn Language Academy, and Hornets Nest Elementary School.
As a longtime partner with the AHA and the Charlotte Heart Ball, Sunbelt Rentals championed the collection and delivery of the sports balls in the Charlotte area. On Friday, May 11, John Washburn, SVP of Sales & Marketing, and Bryan Gassler, Director of Marketing, volunteered to distribute the sports balls to the four schools. They were even able to participate in a few games of basketball and football with the students.
“Our goal is to enable activity, collaboration, and inclusion amongst peers,” said Bryan Gassler. “We were excited to encourage the kids to participate in sports-related activities. Our team was honored to partner with the AHA as we work towards changing the CDC statistic, and create healthier adults who are physically active and enjoy exercise.”
