Severe Storms Pt. 2: Reaction – Activate Your Plan
In the first blog of this series, we explained how severe storms (specifically hurricanes) are among the most dangerous storms in the world. We also mentioned how important it is to establish a contingency plan for these destructive storms, as it is extremely difficult to efficiently react while they are occurring.
Once the storms hit, safety is your priority. Per the American Red Cross, be sure you commit to the following:
- Stay indoors
- Use flashlights in the dark – not candles
- Avoid contact with floodwater
- If instructed by local authorities, turn off the power and water mains
During the storm, activate your contingency plan. Severe storms can cause your company’s day-to-day operations to completely shut down. By activating your contingency plan, you will reduce downtime and increase productivity, saving your business time and money.
Relying on an emergency and disaster response team will save you the hassle of searching for emergency equipment and support services needed during a disastrous storm. Sunbelt Rentals Emergency Response Team is available 24/7 to help quickly mitigate damage and loss. We understand the needs of remediation and restoration projects, and our disaster response units are strategically placed throughout the U.S. to mobilize equipment for your convenience.
Keep in mind, there is a solution offered for whatever damage you experience. Renting portable and containerized generators, for example, allows you to ensure steady and reliable power when a severe storm eliminates it.
Other common equipment and solutions most often needed after a severe storm or in an emergency include:
- Aerial work platforms
The importance of having, and activating your storm contingency plan is critical. Your plan will reduce the amount of damage, lessen downtime, and better prepare your company for evacuation.
In part three of this series, we will explain the recovery process, including the best way to clean up from a severe storm.
