National Safety Month

Did you know that June is National Safety Month? Per the National Safety Council, National Safety Month focuses on reducing leading causes of injury and death at work, on the road, and in our homes and communities.

Per OSHA, every day nearly 6.5 million people work at approximately 252,000 construction sites across the nation. To increase safety and reduce risk, please refer to the following list before you venture on site for your next project:

1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – do you have the proper equipment to work on a construction site? This includes wearing face and eye protection including safety glasses or face shields while you weld, cut, grind, or nail. Hand protection needs to be worn anytime during concrete work, weld work, and electrical work. In addition, hard hats must be worn when there is a potential for falling objects, collision with fixed objects, or contact with electrical hazards.
2. Training – Equipment Safety Training and proof of training is required by OSHA to operate heavy equipment such as aerial lifts, forklifts, and earth moving equipment. Our team provides  operator training courses as well as Supported and Suspended Scaffolding User and Competent Person Training, and Train the Trainer courses to suit your safe operation needs.
3. Equipment – without the proper equipment, you are at risk for an unsafe result. Every piece of equipment should be well maintained and it’s imperative for the user to be trained and prepared for a successful outcome.
4. Communication – have you ever had a positive experience working on a job without any form of communication? Likely not. Without proper communication, there is confusion, which can lead to accidents. To have a safe construction site, communication is key.
5. Support – having additional support throughout a job not only enables the job to run smoother, but ultimately safer.
