FORT MILL, SC – September 22, 2008 – Sunbelt Rentals was recognized as one of “America’s Safest Companies” by Occupational Hazards magazine, a testament to the company’s continual focus on safety improvement.
Founded in 2002, “America’s Safest Companies” is a corporate award honoring the safest companies in the United States. "The 2008 America's Safest Companies honorees represent not only outstanding achievement domestically but prove one of our most valuable exports is the knowledge and will to conduct safe operations globally. If there were an Olympics held for safety, these companies would all deserve gold medals," said Stephen Minter, publisher of Occupational Hazards, in a press release announcing the list of honorees.
Sunbelt is one of 18 companies comprising the 2008 list of honorees and is the only company in the tool and equipment rental industry to receive the honor this year.
“This award is the result of many years of hard work by the employees of Sunbelt Rentals,” said Jeff Stachowiak, Sunbelt Rentals’ national safety director. “Sunbelt has come a long way in their safety culture and while we are proud of our accomplishments we will not be satisfied until we are accident free.”
To be considered one of America's Safest Companies, Occupational Hazards states that organizations must demonstrate: support from management and employee involvement; innovative solutions to safety challenges; injury and illness rates lower than the average for their industries; comprehensive training programs; evidence that prevention of incidents is the cornerstone of the safety process; good communication about the value of safety; and a way to substantiate the benefits of the safety process.
